Short-term mentoring experiences provide learning opportunities for both the mentor and the person being mentored.

Curiosity is key to employment!
Brigitte had a great MentorAbility experience! She was searching for a job in the emergency call dispatch sectorand was pleased to take part in a virtual discussion with her mentor Karolanne, from Urgences-santé (911). Karolanne who works in this field described her work days in detail in order to give Brigitte an idea of what it’s like to work in such a role. Brigitte came out of the meeting fired up, with a renewed desire to continue her job search… even more so now that she understood that her reduced mobility doesn’t need stop her from entering her chosen field of work. “Karolanne quickly made me feel comfortable and told me to ask her all the questions I had about the job. Her dedication and support were invaluable to my job search.” Brigitte would like other people to benefit from this experience and warmly recommended to her friends that they also participate.
The experience was just as rewarding for the mentor. Curious by nature, Karolanne wanted to make sure that she answered all the questions asked of her by Brigitte, who was eager to learn about all aspects of the work. Karolanne was quick to show her own passion for her job – a job that the public does not typically know well. As she talked with Brigitte, Karolanne realised that everyone’s journey is unique. Karolanne was very impressed by Brigitte’s motivation and desire to go above and beyond. Karolanne also told us she highly recommends that other employers also take part in such mentorship experiences. It offers companies the opportunity to make themselves known which, according to her, is a tremendous advantage.
