Ashwini participated in MentorAbility to experience what it would be like to work as a receptionist in a small business environment. The skills that entail reception duties is something that Ashwini has never done before.  We were able to connect Ashwini with a new local business owner of Liz’s Bookkeeping Services and her colleague Brenda. Liz is active and supportive to equal job opportunities and was happy to mentor and show Ashwini the daily tasks in reception. Some income tax knowledge and training was offered, and Ashwini was able to view power point slides with an online video trainer. Liz and Brenda were very friendly and supportive in creating a task list, which gave points on information needed as a receptionist. Ashwini learned that she was the face and greeter customers would first see when entering this business. She was also responsible to direct customers with wearing a mask, and hand sanitizing entering the business. Liz’s Bookeeping Services is very consistent in following the Covid 19 safety guidelines for their business, employees, and customers.

Ashwini found the experience interesting and appreciated the hands-on experience. This work environment showed Ashwini what skills and knowledge in income tax looked like as well. There was a diverse amount of training that was needed, in order to better understand the essentials working in an income tax and bookkeeping business. It was a great experience and a pleasure to spend the time with Liz and Brenda. Having them as mentors was very eye opening and we appreciated the time and training given.
