Mentorability Experience Stories: Erin

Sharing career insights through mentorship can support someone's career exploration journey.

Inspiring the Future

“I believe inspiration and encouragement go a long way for every person, it only takes one person who believes in you to change a life,” said Erin (an awesome mentor from Saskatchewan!). Erin chooses to volunteer as a mentor to be that one person — the person who changes someone’s life for the better.

As an Indigenous Resource Officer with the local police, Erin is an advocate for Indigenous Protocols, accessibility, equality and equity; and, as such, she works hard to change the historically troubled relationship between police (simâkansuk) and Indigenous People into something more positive.

Erin uses her voice and life-experiences of “growing up disadvantaged” to encourage and inspire others — especially youth — and show that “no matter what life gives you, working hard can help you overcome most things.” Of which, of course, she is an inspiring, real-world example!

Erin said she is “honoured” to be included in MentorAbility and enjoys it very much, calling it “rich” as “she gets back what she gives and so much more.” Also, her mentorships allow for self-reflection and a chance to “see how far she has come in her own life,” as she sees parts of herself in the young Indigenous girls that she guides.

Thank you for all your hard work and wisdom, Erin! You’re making the world a better place and inspiring others to do the same!
