MentorAbility Experience Stories: Laura

MentorAbility is a great tool to get job seekers to experience and understand different employment opportunities while making connections with employers in our community.

Two Times the Fun!

Laura always had a strong love of the Arts, so when she began thinking of possible career paths to explore, she naturally leaned toward something more artistic and performative – eventually setting her sights on pursuing music and dance.

Laura’s caseworker at ICSS in Ottawa wanted her to experience what it would be like working in both fields, and so ICSS utilized MentorAbility to arrange two virtual mentorships for Laura: one with a local music teacher and another with a nearby dance instructor. Laura enjoyed both MentorAbility Experiences greatly and was able to ask questions, gain experience and bond with both mentors over their love of music and dance, respectively.

Happy with Laura’s mentorships, ICSS said, “MentorAbility is a great tool to get job seekers to experience and understand different employment opportunities” while “making connections with employers in our community.” MentorAbility can also be more than just an informational interview as some of the individuals participating in MentorAbility were hired by the employer after. Many thanks to the ICSS for their continued support and all the best to Laura on her next adventure!
