Accessible Technology

Sonja is always seeking emerging technologies that can assist in her studies. Her interest in tech led to her thinking about starting a podcast where she would not only explore accessible technologies for persons with disabilities, but also review these technologies and interview the creators.

Sonja liked the idea of podcasting, but she had many questions about how to get started in this industry. Luckily, her case worker at Resource Abilities in P.E.I. utilized MentorAbility to connect Sonja to someone with podcasting experience. MentorAbility connected Sonja to Alex from the Canadian Association for Supported Employment, who coordinates the Abilities at Work Podcast as well as his own personal podcast called the The Career Planning Show.

Sonja enjoyed her MentorAbility Experience “very much” and said gaining experience with a podcasting professional “made it all the more worthwhile.” Sonja was taught some keys to a success podcast – such as a high-quality microphone, good sound quality and proper streaming software – and said the most encouraging tip Alex gave her was to “just start and see what happens.”

Sonja “loved the fact” that her MentorAbility experience made her feel more comfortable starting her own podcast and she recommends MentorAbility to anyone who is interested in exploring new work opportunities.

Great work, Sonja! All the best in starting your own podcast!
